I grew up in Ruskin Heights, MO…a suburb of Kansas City…where, in addition to playing every sport that was in season, I picked up guitar and trumpet.  Playing trumpet in school, I got to experience playing for Robert Scott (Ruskin High band director) who told me (when I asked How do you learn to improvise?) “…learn a lot of songs…”…well, I did that…having memorized and performed over 300 popular songs with bands and as a one man band.  I started writing songs in my early twenties in Philadelphia (my dad got transferred to New Jersey when I was a sophomore in HS) I graduated from East Brunswick HS where I played varsity basketball and sang in the school choir…even made all-state choir my Senior year and sang under the direction of Albert Dorhout…a maniac for perfection.  After a couple years at Gettysburg College I left and joined Philly’s Band of Gold (rock band…Kool And The Gang and AWB dance covers) and studied trumpet with Curtis Institute’s Tony Marchione.  I had kept up the guitar, also, and actually made a living playing and singing in clubs…Beatles, Beach Boys, Jackson Brown, Billy Joel, Van Morrison, Jimmy Buffet, etc.  I haven’t placed any songs with major recording artists but have been to LA, NY and Nashville with my songs…(lots of good stories there…someday I’ll do a podcast!) mostly recorded at home on Cakewalk and GarageBand…I have a few recordings I produced at Philadelphia recording studios and have recently rekindled a relationship with Philly’s Veritable recording studio designer/owner, Doug Fearn, who coaches me on songwriting and recording.  Doug also has a prolific podcast, “My Take On Music Recording”, and a company “VT” recording equipment.  His vacuum tube gear is in many major studios around the world.

I am back in KC, now…playing a lot of trumpet these days and enjoying sitting in at  jazz clubs and following KU Basketball and the Royals and Chiefs!  Retired from a finance career (Employee Benefits) and rehabbing houses I have bronzed my ten key calculator and calk gun and am back to music full-time…just waiting for my next hit song idea to push me back to the headphones and writing tablet.  Check out my songs…my email address is on the Contact page…get in touch!
